Annorlunda Vision - Rethought

About Annorlunda Vision

Annorlunda Vision is a small company whose objective is to bring to the forefront families with special needs. In doing this, I want to sow a seed to a new way of thinking about people's capabilities and their value. Annorlunda Vision addresses issues such as:

What does having special needs mean?

Who decides what quality of life is?

What norms and values govern our perception of each other?

How does this manifest itself in our treatment of those who are different?

And:

What if you think again?

By asking these difficult questions and highlighting ethical dilemmas, I want to move the focus away from those who are normally in the spotlight to those who live outside of the norm. In this way,  Annorlunda Vision is working towards diversity in the true sense of the word.

Annorlunda Vision is a flexible company that adapts to your needs and offers lectures, workshops and customized theme days aimed at those who in their daily lives or professional capacity come into contact with families with special needs.

About me

My name is Stina Gidlöf. I am an educated teacher, and have  long time experience of lecturing teenagers. I am also the mother of a child with Down syndrome and various other quirks. It is based on this experience that  I started Annorlunda Vision in 2010. Now I work fulltime as a lecturer. For more information in english, do not hesitate to send me an e-mail, and I´ll get back to you as soon as possible.

About my lectures

I take lecturing seriously. My goal is that a lecture should provide something concrete for each listener to think about. It is for this reason that my lectures are tailored to the audience. Universal to all of my lectures is that the listener will come away feeling stronger in their professional capacity and recognized in their role as a relative or caregiver. That's what Annorlunda Vision is passionate about.

My lectures are designed so that they can be easily organized, in various combinations, into theme days so that they can be pertinent to, for example, multiple agencies in a municipality.

Examples of lectures

About the crisis management, handling and treatment from the very beginning. Strategies for survival in a life that has suddenly altered.

It doesn't matter if it is a boy or girl, as long as the child in the womb is healthy. This is a common view among expectant parents. But if the child isn't healthy? What do you do then? How can you relate to a world that, on the surface seems familiar, but whose contents are entirely unknown?Based on  my own and others' experiences, I describe the first period with a special needs child.

And is the simple life necessarily the best? I'll talk about my life as a parent of a special needs child and how I, as both a parent and a teacher, perceive the approach and handling in medical care, rehabilitation services and child care, both by staff and other parents.

Aimed towards:

Staff in disability care, rehabilitation services, child care and education, as well as health professionals. Caregiver consultants, caregivers and their relatives. Parental groups. Students of nursing, medicine and teaching.

3) A special child with needs

To teach and guide a special needs child in a preschool or school for everyone.

Contents:

All preschool and school staff will, sooner or later in their career, have the opportunity to become acquainted with children with special needs. There are policy documents which clearly state how personnel should conduct themselves, but how is it put into practice? How pre-school and school personnel respond to special needs children plays a major role. Your attitude, knowledge, curiosity and willingness to learn can make the difference between difficult or manageable lives, for both the child, their siblings and parents.

This lecture is about the different ways of relating to families with special needs. Based on my own and others' experiences and with practical advice and tips for useful materials, this is a lecture to all in the field of  education that work with special needs children and their siblings - an often forgotten crowd with their own set of special needs.

As a parent of a child with Down syndrome, one will be exposed to others perceptions of Down syndrome on a daily basis, prejudices and assumed truths, from both medical professionals and school staff,  as well as good intentioned but uninformed friends, family and acquaintances. What is true? What is false? We explore these concepts together and determine where our notions of people with Down syndrome actually come from.
